Exhibition for the publication of the book "Le dernier peuple des glaces", texte by Erik Orsenna, Editions Gallimard.
For more than thirty years, Francis Latreille has travelled the Arctic to meet the ethnic groups of the Far North. Over the years, he has captured their trust and produced striking portraits of these men and women who continue to live the traditional way.
"My first encounter with the Dolgans, reindeer herders, trappers and hunters in the tundra of the Taimyr Peninsula, was a real shock and marked the beginning of a long and beautiful history.
During my further expeditions I discovered the Yakut, the Nenets, the Chukchi, the Koriak, the Sâmes, and then the Inuit of Greenland and Nunavut. It is by accompanying them during their transhumances in the tundra, going fishing or hunting that I was able to draw a portrait of a world full of humanity.
But as the effects of climate change are felt in the Arctic much stronger than in our latitudes, these people, who live in traditional ways, see their ecosystem disrupted." -
